The Grand Trunk Road - Decorated Trucks in India and Pakistan

Pakistan´s Decorated Trucks

One of the most famous sights on the Grand Trunk Road in Pakistan is that of the country’s elaborately decorated trucks. The GT Road is one of the main routes for transporting cargo, and these flamboyantly painted trucks are Pakistan’s equivalent of HGVs. In fact, not only are the majority of Pakistan’s trucks decorated with vivid colours and detailed designs, but a great number of buses and motorised rickshaws are also given a similar treatment.

Tim and Irna visited a number of workshops that are dotted along the Grand Trunk Road in Pakistan where these trucks are repaired and decorated. They photographed and spoke to the men who drive these trucks, and also to the craftsmen who make the trucks look so beautiful.
