Look at the photograph of Scotland Street (right) then download the PDF of the Scotland Street 1891 Census. In the ‘Where born’ column you will find out where people have come from.


On the world map plot the countries from which the people living in Scotland Street came. Make a key.


See if you can find out why people came from these countries at this time?
Why did they live in such poor housing?
What attracted them to Sheffield?
