Egyptian Eye Make-up Pot
This Kohl (eye make-up) pot was used to store the eye make-up that all Egyptians wore to protect their eyes from ailments, flies and the harsh glare of the sun. It was made with black lead ore galena. This pot is made from calcite, which is the main constituent of marble. It dates c.1800 BCE. The rim is broken.
SUPER SCIENCE! Tests run by the University of York have shown that this pot still contains traces of black lead ore galena.
