Eye of Horus

An amulet, also known as the ‘wedjat eye’, used as a form of protection. Amulets were worn for good health and protection by the Ancient Egyptians, and used in mummification to send the dead safely to the Afterlife. This was one of the most popular amulets in Ancient Egypt.

The amulet is made from faience, a naturally occurring substance in Egypt that contains copper, which give it is colour. It consists mainly of sand or crushed quartz and is a non-clay ceramic. Its texture is similar to clay.

The amulet is painted black to create the decoration and has a hole running through it, to hang as a necklace pendant.
