Political Handbill: Abolition of the Slave Trade
This handbill titled "Slave Trade", relates to the third reading of the Bill for the Abolition of the Slave Trade in the House of Commons, on March 20 1807. It contains comments by Lord Milton and William Wilberforce who both supported the abolition of the trade, but stood against each other for the election.
The last sentence; "Does the language of Mr. Wilberforce...." refers to Henry Lascelles of Harewood House. The Lascelles' wealth came largely from their involvement in the slave trade.
