Cellar of Back-to-Back House in Leeds Used as Pantry
With no fridge, Annie’s family kept foodstuffs in a larder located in the cellar of their back-to-back house like this one. The long stone slab would have helped to keep foodstuff cool. On the left, cakes are visible on a metal rack while on the right, eggs, milk and tomatoes stand in front of two large mixing bowls. On the right a small window allows light into the white-washed cellar from street level.
