Cromwell on Horseback 1657

This portrait of Oliver Cromwell on horseback shows his love of horses as well as his love of fine clothes: he wore this fashionable grey velvet suit to his daughter’s wedding in 1657 and it was used to decorate one of his effigies in his state funeral.
