Donald Simpson Bell’s Victoria Cross medal was awarded to his widow in 1916. The medal is a bronze cross pattée (a type of cross which is narrow at the centre and wide at the edge) and decorated with a crown and lion, and the motto: 'For Valour'. © The National Football Museum, on loan from the Professional Footballers Association
