Illustration of Leeds Flax Works

Leeds Flax Works. By 1830, John Marshall owned four flax mills in Leeds, including the iconic Temple Mill. Cloth made from flax is called linen, and is popular in hot weather, as it keeps the wearer cool. It is also used to make products as diverse as rope, teabags and banknotes.
