Lithograph of Two Women Welding

This lithograph, ‘The Acetylene Welder “Britain’s Efforts and Ideals”; Making Aircraft’ by C.R.W. Nevinson (1917) was commissioned by the Ministry of Information. The Ministry commissioned artists to produce works representing different aspects of war work undertaken during the First World War. It shows two women welding at work benches with vices. A cylinder stands by the side of the bench. They are wearing scarves, goggles and aprons but their hands and arms are bare
