Painting by a FEPOW: Always Look Inside Your Bamboo

This drawing of a creature poking its head out of a section of bamboo was painted by FEPOW Jack Chalker in 1944. Many FEPOWs lived in jungle camps, and the wildlife could be both a source of interest, and also a source of danger. Bamboo was also one of the places that FEPOW artists hid their drawings from the Japanese guards.
