Remains of a Roman road in Britain

This road is approximately 1500 years old, which gives some hint as to how well it was constructed by the Romans! The larger stones on the top surface are laid over the top of a mix of sized aggregates that compact down to provide stability. The drainage ditches can still be seen either side of the road.
