Rose and Crown Yard, Leeds

The Rose and Crown Yard in Leeds in 1887.  Census returns for 1881,  record there was a pub called the Rose and Crown, a hardware shop, a cobler, a tobacconist, a shop keeper and a lodging house keeper.

Until the middle of the century there was no proper drainage or sewerage, and the yards were dirty and insanitary.
