Excerpt of a Poster Promoting the Work of St Dunstan's
Section of a poster promoting the work of St Dunstan’s (now Blind Veterans UK), a charity started during the First World War to help blinded ex-servicemen and women adjust after losing their sight. This poster tells the story of ‘William’, a marine engineer who lost his sight and his right hand in 1916. At first he felt ‘useless’, but after learning how to make high quality coffee trays William was able to return home and found a job. Now, he ‘could feel and talk on level terms with his fellow men…and produce something that was useful and wanted’.
