Shell Exploding at The Front, France

Shell exploding at The Front, France during the First World War. It can be seen in the distance, through rows of barbed wire stretching across no-man's-land. The ground is snow covered. Whilst many images were deliberately taken as propaganda, some, like this, were taken on the spur of the moment and manage to capture the reality of war.
