Silver Disc Engraved with Drake's Voyages 1577-80

Silver engraved disc from the British Museum collection, marked with the map of America tracking the voyages of Francis Drake and Martin Frobisher. The disc marks the ‘discovery’ of the Frobisher Strait by Martin Frobisher in August 1576, but no voyages after 1586. Therefore, it is likely to be a contemporary record engraved before 1586. Can you see the outline of America? How does it compare to how we understand the world now? Can you spot Queen Elizabeth I’s named Meta Incognita (Latin for Unknown Shore) from Frobisher’s voyage?
