Watercolour painting from 1843: Chimney Sweeps up a Tree with Police in Hot Persuit

A scene in Hyde Park May 13, 1843. The image depicts two chimney sweeps sitting in the high branches of a tree in Hyde Park, they have presumably stolen something and are attempting to evade the police who have begun to climb the tree. A third sweep stands at the bottom of the ground holding onto the coat tails of one of the policeman.

Five more policeman approach from the background in military formation. One policeman has hold of a sweep and says "Come down you rascal". "Let go or I'll dust you" threatens one the sweep in return, holding a full sack of soot. The other sweep, sitting in the tree brags; "I've got the Nestes Sam". Sam is a beggarly man standing at the foot of the tree holding a bundle shouting words of encouragement to the sweeps.
