A Global View

Nadine Senior was teaching dance in Leeds in the 1970s and 1980s. Elsewhere in the world, hundreds of thousands of American troops were fighting communists in the Vietnam War (1955-75), Saddam Hussein launched the Iran-Iraq war (1980) and Britain fought Argentina in the Falklands War (1982). In Eastern Europe, communist rule was gradually replaced by parliamentary democracy (late 1980s) and in South Africa the non-white population continued to face segregation and discrimination under the Apartheid system.
